| I spend almost every Sunday morning at Shades of Brown coffee shop located on Brookside in Tulsa, OK. My home of 7 months is teaching me to appreciate new people, new culture, and new experiences in at Tulsa fashion. Today I write about a familiar stranger:
She is a regular at Shades and she has a rotund hairstyle of puffed, coarse black hair. She is always makeup-ed and well dressed but has an odd gait that calls my attention. She is not particularly beautiful but she has a kind face and seems approachable. We've been seated next to each other on a number of occasions during which she spends time reading non-sensical books or surfing the internet for odds and ends. Today she walked in waring a spring top that she purchased from Old Navy-I only know because my friend Alyson bought the same one. She was wearing thick rimmed black glasses today that I've never seen on her before that changed her appearance slightly. Unlike most of Shades' common-comers she does not smoke but has a reserved nervousness about her. Occasionally she picks up small talk with those around her but usually keeps to herself. I find her intriguing and unique. Sometimes I imagine she has some great secret or touching story or wisdom to impart if only someone would tap into the depth of what she has to offer.

| today I was running a couple of errands with my Dad's mom who was in town for my Dad's birthday. We walked into World Market and she became so excited. She had never been to a World Market before and she wanted to walk around but has too passive of a personality to have admitted it. After picking up the item I needed I pretended that I wanted to continue to peruse the store and look at the on-sale items and talk about lavender oil (which is actually quite interesting).
When we finally checked out the cashier was a girl named Summer who I went to High School with. Actually, we attended most of grade school together. She talked to me a bit and her kindness softened me considering we ran in different groups during our time in High School together. Being in college (or post college) seems to free us of our past stereotypes and over-generalizations. Isn't that nice.

| My best friend's mom died a little over three years ago. Today I had the sudden urge while passing the cemetery to go sit by her headstone for a while. I admit that although I've had good intentions, I have only been to visit once post-funeral. Although today was both hot and humid the wind was blowing and she was resting in the shade. I rolled my car windows down and listened to soothing music and sat next to her for a while. I was grateful to be so near her because of the joy her daughter has brought into my life.
I got in my car and began to drive away and as I rounded the corner I glimpsed another grave with a name that I recognized. One of my closest childhood friends is getting married this summer. I have been asked to be one of her bridesmaids and have really enjoyed getting to know her fiance. It turns out that her fiance's sister was killed in a car accident eight years ago. I saw the last name and almost continued driving but then decided to pull over. I stepped out and stood in front of her headstone for a while staring. I did not know her name before this day and after a little bit of calculating, was confident that this was her. I smiled at the thought that she and my friend will be related soon and reflected on the future sister-in-law that she will never have.
An interesting day in College Station.

| Laura and Elizabeth threw me a fabulous birthday extravaganza upon my return to Texas that I thoroughly enjoyed. We went to Cafe Eccell here in town and dined on ahi tuna nachos, greek salads, and strawberry tarts. I ordered my first alcoholic drink but the girls paid for it. It was a classy meal with fantastic company! The girls spoiled me with amazing presents which included: 1. a fancy shmancy bottle of wine 2. The Motorcycle Diaries 3. a book on how to draw 101 monsters 4. a picture frame with a picture of Laura and I 5. a picture frame with a collage of travel pictures with myself and Laura and amazing quotes from our life 6. the first and only season of Stella
Laura also so kindly brought a little black package to me to share the taste of christmas throughout the air. It was euphoric and entirely memorable.
The youth intern for our church is staying at Laura's house this summer and we have had multiple awkward encounters with him to the point that avoidance is really the best option. We are choosing to call him Kevin and we bought him a strawberry tart although I think he wished we would go away so he could watch baseball.

| After spending a full week in Shelbyville, TN with my sister and her family I flew to College Station and woke up the next morning to head to Abilene.
Arriving here around 12:00 and found Laura still in her pajamas and watching Jane Eyre in bed. I was wonderfully entertained by the movie Gross Point Blank while she got ready for the day (I recommend the movie).
After a lunch and some shopping we were informed that a great storm was rolling in so we picked up Laza and Grassie and headed to Double Daves to pick up dinner. We ate pizza rolls and climbed on the roof just in time for the rain. Sheets of rain poured down and the lightening was amazing. We were absolutely drenched, singing, and dancing with the thunder.
Only Abilene, TX can bring about magic such as this!
